Mary A. Simon holds a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, both in oboe performance. Her primary teachers included Martin Schuring and John Dee. After graduation, she studied oboe-making and repair under Ginger Ramsay at Covey & Ramsay in Georgia. Upon completion of her apprenticeship, she briefly served in Evanston doing repairs for Oboe Chicago. Thereafter, Mary returned to Arizona to work for David and Vendla Weber as office manager and repair technician for Weber Reeds, a position which she held for three and a half years. She has studied with Larry Mueller and Ken Decker for further professional development. Mary currently owns and operates MAS Oboe Repair and is a member of the Sedona Symphony (formerly Verde Valley Sinfonietta), Arizona Philharmonic, and principal oboist of the Symphony of the Southwest. She has also performed with the West Valley Symphony, Prescott Pops Symphony, Tucson Pops Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and The Phoenix Symphony.
